Dr. Tammy Kowalczyk is a Professor of Accounting and Sustainable Business at Appalachian State University. Kowalczyk’s primary areas of research include sustainability accounting, ESG reporting, carbon accounting, and natural resource economics. She has been awarded several research grants related to expanding forest conservation and carbon projects in rural areas of the Southeast. She started the Appalachian Impact Clinic, an experiential learning initiative that facilitates student engagement with external organizations on establishing more sustainable business practices. She has published in Behavioral Research in Accounting, Advances in Management Accounting, Issues in Accounting Education, the CPA Journal, Journal of Industrial Ecology and the Journal of Environmental Management.
When not working, she enjoys spending time with her family and dogs, skiing, and coaching CrossFit.
